Electric Toothbrushes For Children: What You Should Know

Electric Toothbrushes For Children: What You Should Know

Children who struggle to maintain good oral hygiene with a manual toothbrush will often find an electric toothbrush extremely helpful. Here, we go over some of the reasons that electric toothbrushes are such useful dental hygiene tool – especially for kids.

Electric toothbrushes clean teeth more thoroughly.

Electric brushes are the clear winner over mannual toothbrushes when it comes to efficiently and thoroughly cleaning teeth.

electric toothbrushes, with their fast whirring bristles, remove plaque better and faster than manual toothbrushes do. Their design also makes it much easier to clean those hard-to-reach places, like the very back molars.

If your kids are a bit lazy when brushing with a manual toothbrush, an electric toothbrush is a great choice, since they do most of the work!

They keep you from brushing too hard.

This may surprise you; you’d think the fast whirring motion would mean that brushing gently would be much harder with an electric toothbrush.

However, it’s really quite easy to be gentle with an electric toothbrush, since you don't actually have to make the brushing motion yourself. You simply guide the toothbrush lightly along the surfaces of the teeth, and let it do all the work.

They’re easier to use for children with dexterity issues.

For very young children or those who have dexterity issues, manual toothbrushes can be quite a struggle. Electric toothbrushes are beneficial for these children as well, because they have bigger handles, making them easier to grip. And again, the electric toothbrush does most of the cleaning work itself, so your child can simply guide it around his or her mouth for a good, thorough clean.

Their built-in timers let your child know how long to brush.

While your child may know that she's supposed to brush her teeth for about 2 minutes during each oral hygiene session, it can be hard to tell how long that actually is if you don’t have a clock or timer in front of you.

Many standard electric toothbrush models have timers built right in that go off after two minutes, making it a no-brainer!
